What Is Flock?
Flock is very short cut fibers. These can be randomly cut (mixed lengths) or precision cut. Flock can be any type of fiber including cotton, nylon, polyester, rayon, polypropylene, modacyrlic, Kevlar, etc.

What is Flocking?
Flocking is the process of coating the flock fibers to a substrate using an adhesive. The process can be done by dusting the flock or electrostatically spraying the fibers.

What Materials can be Flocked?
We have the ability to flock most goods that are in a roll – textiles, films, foams, nonwovens, etc. We can coat or print our adhesives in a continuous process. We use mechanical and electrostatic methods to provide an even, orientated fiber coating.

What Fibers can be Flocked?
We can flock many of the fibers on the market today. Most of our flocking is done with nylon, rayon, acrylic, polyester, cotton and our own Vivid Fiber. We are not limited to those fibers. Through our R&D developments with various customers we have flocked Kevlar, Basofil, etc.

What Size Fibers can be Flocked?
Spectro can flock fibers from a .8 micro denier all the way to a 200 denier fiber. Lengths can be as short as .010” to .10”.

What is the Adhesive made of?
Our adhesives are all water-based acrylic latex adhesives. They are nontoxic and have low VOC’s. We filter all our adhesives through a system that separates the water and the acrylic latex. The clean water is sent to the town and the recovered latex is reused in some of our own adhesives. We also have the ability to use many other water-based adhesive systems that can be designed for a particular end use including urethanes, epoxies, etc.

Can you “Flock” other Materials?
We can apply other materials – glitter, plastics, glass beads – in a similar fashion as we apply the fiber. Please call us with your ideas.
